* From page 203 of Tamsin's book vers 8.1FINAL: "build and share platforms where people can self-organize to collectively create value in ways that make sense to the way they live. That means creating opportunities for people to design their own ways of production and consumption that mesh with their local norms and values"

xxThe mycoConstitution serves three important purposes:
-
it clearly and publicly declares our reason for being and what we stand for so that people can make informed decisions about joining us at the table.
-
for those who have chosen to join with us, the Mycologie Constitution is
-
a guide for interacting with people at Mycologie and with others like themselves have joined with us
-
an on-going reminder as to what we value, how we want to act, and what we have to do to stay true to our commitments.
-
xxeditor’s note: add the bio reference: maintains them the same way nature has for millions of years, with immune-system-like strategies and "lock-and-key" specificityxx.

Problem of Purpose [Check this section with Tamsin]
Evolution’s ‘purpose’ is straightforward, i.e., xxsurvival and reproduction---xxwhat Darwin called ‘survival of the fittest.’ Evolution does not follow philosophical principals or moral strictures nor does it insure that any particular specie or species, including humans, survive.
-
From the perspective of humans, evolution is neither a neutral nor an xx phenomenon. Biologists understand that, from the evolutionary perspective, humans are social beings, primates and xx. They understand that we humans exhibit xx and xx exist in xx.
-
From a biological perspective, we humans are social beings with a larger xx, humans have constructed a variety of what we consider ‘higher’ purposes that take us beyond a simple definition of survival of the fittest. xx These ‘higher purposes’ are based on various religious and philosophical beliefs. From a religious perspective, some xx has separated us from xx. While different people hold very different views on which purposes are ‘higher,’ each of us makes decisions based upon her/his view.
-
So, what happens when humans attempt to use biomimicry or bio-inspiration to address critical challenges facing our and other species and the planet that we inhabit together? In fact, rather than being willing to use survival of the fittest to decide our actions, most of us try to apply some form of ‘higher’ purpose to our choices.
-
For Mycologie, we select which insights from science, technology, etc. that we will adopt and use to address critical challenges?
-
xxFor MycoMesh, we recognize that we have to filter the insights of biomimicry or bio-inspiration through some human belief xx. While some will disagree, we believe that we must also filter technological and scientific insights through some human beliefs.
-
In neither case are we arguing that the discovery process be stopped. We are talking about what insights we will use and xx to address critical challenges.
